13 for the second season of RISE, the Museum’s increasingly popular contemporary rock, pop, and hip hop music series that features rising talent among young artists.
Larrieux’s featured guest performer will be Jake Sherman, a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music who plays piano and harmonica with a sound reminiscent of Chet Baker.
He has a new album coming out this fall.
Also, performing will be the young and emerging hip hop artist, KayO from A2Z, a Boston-based organization that supports young people, ages 10 to 22 to explore all aspects of the arts from singing to dancing to rapping.
Born in New York’s West Village, Larrieux, whose neo-soul sound recalls Sade, Erykah Badu, Maxwell, IndiaArie, and Lauryn Hill, started singing at age 18 and formed a duo called Groove Theory.
As lead vocalist and co-writer for the group, they broke the top ten on the Billboard Hot 100 list with the song, “Tell Me,” and made the top five on the R&B charts before it was certified gold in Oct.
1995.
In 2004, Larrieux was nominated for her vocals in Stanley Clarke’s “Where Is the Love,” for best R&B performance.
Larrieux has recorded several solo albums, including “Infinite Possibilities” in 2000, “Bravebird” in 2004, and “Morning” in 2006, incorporating the genres of R&B, soul, hip hop, jazz, folk, and sounds from Middle Eastern, West African, and Indian cultures in “Infinite Possibilities.” She released her fifth solo album, “Ice Cream Everyday” in 2013.
She has contributed to film soundtracks, writing and singing for the films: “Barbershop,” “Love Jones,” “Down to Earth,” “Sunset Park,” “Takers,” and “Why Did I Get Married.”
Stylish and known for her beauty, Larrieux has also been featured in fashion magazines, Essence, Honey, Harper’s Bazaar, Marie Claire, Lucky, Trace, The Fader, and other magazines.
She was part of the Coach bag’s anniversary print campaign, and Coca-Cola’s “Keep It Real” campaign in TV, radio, and print.
Happily married with two children in New York City, Larrieux is passionate about yoga so she is chosen mindfulness, yoga, and movement as her community theme for the Oct.
13 performance.
RISE concerts begin at 7 p.m., and a cash bar is open to guests, beginning at 5 p.m. so they can wander around the Museum’s famous Courtyard, sip cocktails around the Cloisters, explore the art-filled historic building, and enjoy the modern Renzo Piano wing.
Tickets are required for RISE and include Museum admission.
Admission is $27 for adults; $24 for seniors; $17 for members; $12 students and children; and youth age 7 and under not admitted.

On Dec.
13, up-and-coming Australian pop singer Betty Who will perform for RISE along with featured guest, the cutting edge, electronic pop musical act, Knower.
Artists for the 2017 RISE series have yet to be announced, but the concert dates are: Feb.
9, March 30, and April 27.
