Founded in 1979, the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus is made up of 100 undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, staff, and community members.

The ensemble presents two major choral-orchestral performances per year exploring a wide range of repertoire spanning the baroque, classical, romantic, 20th century, and present day music.

Since October 31, 2017 is the 500th Anniversary of the Reformation it is fitting that we dedicate our Fall Concert to the celebration of one of Luther’s most ardent warriors, Johann Sebastian Bach.

Indeed, it has been said that Bach’s works are “the Reformation set to music.”

During his lifetime, J.S Bach was acknowledged as the greatest organist of the Baroque.

He only gained fame for his compositions after his death.

We hope you can join us in Sanders Theatre for what promises to be an inspired performance by the Harvard-Radcliffe Chorus.

We will be presenting three of J.S.

Bach’s works this season, a mass and two cantatas:

Johann Sebastian Bach: Music of the Reformation

Mass in G major, (BWV 236),
Ein feste Burg ist unser Gott (BWV 80), and Nun danket alle Gott (BWV 192)

Edward Elwyn Jones, Art Director Gund University Organist and Choirmaster in the
Memorial Church of Harvard University, conducting

Cassandra Extavour, soprano, Mary Gerbi, mezzo-soprano, Matthew Anderson, tenor, and David McFerrin, baritone

Accompanied by early music orchestra on period instruments
