Boston-based family band Matt Heaton & the Outside Toys will perform their dance-filled, laugh-laced Holiday Hootenanny at three local venues this December. Because nothing says holidays like fiddle drenched honky-tonk numbers, retro hi fi guitar stylings, and a rock solid rhythm section.
Heaton leads the band on vocals and (orange) rockabilly guitar, with Jared Seabrook on drums, Emily Catlett on fiddle and vocals, and Jim Haggerty on bass.
And in typical Matt Heaton fashion, audiences will be welcomed to sing, wiggle, and giggle, as Matt & ’the Toys’ play hits from their 2019 release “Snow Day!”
Heaton is one of Boston’s most sought-after family performers. He is a recipient of multiple Massachusetts Cultural Council Grants, as well as awards from Club Passim’s Iguana Fund. “I’ve always believed strongly that music for kids should meet the same high standards as music for adults.” Says Heaton. “I try, and hopefully succeed, to reach everyone in the room, regardless of their age.”
During most of the year, Heaton plays community libraries, big outdoor festivals, and everything in between. But during December, he gets out the Santa hats and focuses on originals like “Snow Day,” “Happy Holidays,” and “Christmas Movies,” as well as beloved seasonal numbers like the Grinch and Rudolph.
