Professional string musicians—including members of the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Philharmonic, Lexington Symphony, Portland Symphony Orchestra, and Rhode Island Philharmonic—are joining together in concert as a string orchestra to support the Relief Fund for Ukrainian Musicians, established at the Lisa Batiashvili Foundation.

The fund is doing important work of sending much needed direct financial support to the musicians from some of the hardest hit areas—Kharkiv, Mariupol, Chernihiv and Severodonetsk.

Many of these musicians have lost everything, including their homes and their instruments, and the financial support the fund provides makes a day and night difference in their lives.

More information about the fund can be found HERE!

Our string orchestra concert features two Ukrainian musicians as soloists, Olga Patramanska-Bell and Alexander Vavilov, founder of the relief fund.

Listen to Alexander's compelling appearance at WGBH's Morning Edition.

Our opening act will be performed by the Malden Catholic Choir conducted by Dr. Lora Tamagini.

Program:

• Foster: The Prayer, with the Malden Catholic Choir

• Traditional Ukrainian Folk Song: 'Oy u Luzi Chervona Kalyna' or 'Red Viburnum in the Meadow', with Alexander Vavilov, solo viola

• Verbytsky: National Anthem of Ukraine

• Puccini: Crisantemi (Chrysanthemums)

• Grieg: Holberg Suite, two select movements

• Skoryk: Melody, with Olga Patramanska-Bell, violin soloist

• Dvorak: Serenade for Strings, two select movements

• Fibich: Poem

• Lysenko: Prayer for Ukraine

George Ogata, Conductor
