The musical's narrative centers on Matilda Wormwood, a precocious girl with special powers, who loves reading.
Through her imagination and her relationships with her schoolmates and teacher she overcomes obstacles caused by her family and headmistress.
Even as Matilda finds the acceptance and support she is looking for, she inspires others, including her teacher, to believe that they are worthy of love, respect, and justice.
The Unity House Players production, directed by Darcie Farber, cast primarily consists of selected area youth ages 11-17.
Two experienced adult actors round out the cast and larger-than-life puppetry by O.B. Puppets are also incorporated in the show.
It was the vision and mission of this production to not only showcase some of the incredible emerging talent amongst young people but to help it grow through integrated instruction and opportunities.
With coaching by Becca Coolong and choreographer Erin Greene, as well as hard work with the directors, the cast has risen to the challenge.
The emerging production is a truly enjoyable show, full of energy, humor, and fun music with strong vocals that match any adult production!
The cast will be supported by a 7 piece orchestra and a 4 part vocal pit, led by Music Director Elisabeth Weber.
The full length musical will be performed, with an intermission, in the intimate 125 seat contemporary space at 245 Porter Lake Road, Springfield, MA.
The show is appropriate for most ages (those who can sit quietly for the duration) and contains moments of mischief, tame explosive language, and poor-adulting role models that may not be encouraged or safe at home!
Evening Performances are Feb. 10th, 11th, 17th and 18th at 7:30.
Matinees are Feb. 12, 18, and 19th at 2pm.
