She has recorded for major (EMI Guardian) and independent (Rykodisc, Vanguard and Compass) labels, collaborating with some of the finest musicians and producers in the country.
Before the pandemic, she continued to play shows for a legion of fans who shared stories with her at the merch table night after night.
Her songs have been featured in films and tv shows, and she performed several times at the White House during the Obama administration.
She’s intensely grateful for those years and honored to know that her music has been an integral part of so many people’s lives.
Catie has been making the transition to working as a community mental health counselor over the past three years.
Her job as a therapist, while incredibly fulfilling, does not feed the artist in her!
“I still need and want to create music.
It can be hard to find the time, but writing is still how I make sense of my life and the world around me.
Writing a song is like putting together a puzzle using the head, heart, hands and a guitar.” Fortunately, it’s important to her fans, too.
With financial support from fans (through Patreon) Catie has written dozens of songs over the past couple of years, eleven of which appear on her new album The Raft.
She would love for you to be a part of this special community of support, which you can find HERE.
“Have you ever been to a show where you feel an invisible wall between you and the performer?
Catie Curtis pulls the walls down.” – Mary Chapin Carpenter (Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter)
MAIA SHARP has had her songs recorded by Bonnie Raitt, The Chicks, Cher, Edwin McCain, David Wilcox, Art Garfunkel, Lizz Wright, Lisa Loeb, Terri Clark, Keb’ Mo’ (including his recent single with Taj Mahal) and Trisha Yearwood (including her recent single “The Wall or the Way Over”) and many more.
And through it all, Maia has continued to record her own albums; nine solo releases, one collaborative project with Art Garfunkel and Buddy Mondlock and her duo project, Roscoe & Etta.
Maia is also an adjunct professor at NYU and has been writing for Songwriting With: Soldiers for eight years.
Her latest album, Tomboy will be available in all the ways on September 12.
'Maia Sharp is one of America's great singer-songwriters.
Her storytelling runs profound and deep while honoring a pop tradition that urges you to sing along and feel good.
Maia sings with an angelic voice that's shrouded in stark realism and a healthy dose of cynicism.....it's an exotic cocktail!' – DON WAS
'Maia Sharp's new album 'Tomboy' is a catchy collection of songs that hit close to the bone, from one of the best songwriters around.' - AMERICANAMUSIC.COM
“Ultimately, Reckless Thoughts comes across as a calming, contemplative, and confessional set of songs that reaffirm the fact that Sharp is truly a treasure in terms of her ability to craft compelling songs that bear an affirmative attitude, one that takes stock in both kindness and compassion and uses them to the best advantage.
In the end, that’s truly something to savor.” – AMERICAN SONGWRITER
“Backburner” is one clever lyric, but the beauty of the song is that it isn’t cloying or cutesy.
The arrangement, which features Sharp’s guitars and synths along with other musicians, is steady and unswerving, like on the cruise-control mode in your car.
From Sharp’s contemplative delivery to the tautness of the arrangement, “Backburner” conveys regret without ever sounding maudlin.
To extend its metaphor, it stays on simmer and never overheats.” – ROLLING STONE
