Amy Kucharik and Tiger Moan invite special guests each month and push the tables aside to make room for dancing.

This month we present a Battle of the Saxes!

For our FOURTH annual sax battle, we're bringing back a true woodwind heavyweight, John Clark (who played with us back in April) squaring off against reigning sax queen Erica Risti.

You’ll hear Tiger Moan with these two saxophonists battling it out on tenor, bari and alto saxes playing blues, jazz -- and more -- specially selected by the players, plus Amy's own arrangement of trad jazz lounge classic, “Night Train.”

JOHN CLARK is the founder of the Wolverine Jazz Band and has been a fixture on the New England Jazz scene for many years.

Well-respected for his skillful and soulful playing on clarinet and saxophone, John has played professionally in the Boston area with numerous traditional jazz and big bands, including the Happy Feet Dance Orchestra, Commonwealth Jazz, the New Black Eagle Jazz Band, and the Paramount Jazz Band of Boston.

Clark also regularly appears with Dan Gabel and His Orchestra, the Swing Legacy, the High Society Orchestra, and 440 Gypsy Quartet, among others.

John is an acknowledged authority on the history of jazz and has recorded extensively.

He also holds a PhD. in Musicology and has published books and articles on the foundations of Early Jazz.

Multi-instrumentalist ERICA RISTI (@swiss_army_musician on Instagram) is the saxophonist and backing vocalist for Tiger Moan, and plays saxophone, accordion, and other instruments with many area bands including the Baker Thomas Band and Tiny the Bear.

TIGER MOAN - Specializing in vintage blues with sass and class, Tiger Moan is in the third year of their residency playing first Sundays every month at the Burren Backroom.

Tiger Moan has entertained blues and swing dancers at events such as Sweet Molasses Blues, Blues Union, Yale Swing & Blues and MIT's Bread & Bones fusion dance.

The band is known for covering the best blues standards and for funky originals with innovative lyrics.

With Amy Kucharik on vocals, ukulele, tenor guitar and harmonica and a rotating cast of top-notch musicians on keys, upright bass, horns, washboard and kit percussion, and more.

Blues dance lesson at 7:30 is included in your cover; no partner or experience required.
