Afro-Cuban & Afro-Brazilian Grooves with Zahili Zamora Thursday, February 19 | 6–7 PM
ShowUp Gallery & Exhibition Space
524 Harrison Ave., Boston
Ahead of her February 21 Spot/Light performance at Black Market Nubian, artist Zahili Zamora leads an interactive, community-centered workshop exploring the rhythmic foundations of Afro-Cuban and Afro-Brazilian music.
This free, one-hour workshop invites participants to experience groove in the body, focusing on rhythmic frameworks such as clave, tumbao, samba, and related traditions—and how they continue to shape contemporary jazz and global music.
Through listening, clapping, movement, and hands-on playing, participants will deepen their understanding of feel, coordination, and cultural context.
No prior musical experience is required.
All are welcome.
Free and open to the public
Space is limited; RSVPs encouraged
Supported by the City of Boston Neighborhood and Downtown Activation Grant
Accessibility note: ShowUp’s front entrance is not ADA-compliant and requires stairs to access the gallery (no elevator or lift available).
There is on-street visitor parking on Harrison Avenue just outside the gallery, and on both sides of Randolph Street, just around the corner.
There are metered spots on Washington Street, parallel to Harrison Ave.
More and more of the GTI lots (surrounding ShowUp) are monthly passes only, so we wouldn’t recommend using those, but their lots on Albany Street under 93 are open to the public.
