Longtime collaborators and friends Emily Walhout and Akiko Sato will celebrate Bach’s birthday in style, and you’re invited!

The sonatas for viola da gamba and harpsichord were likely written between the late 1730s and early 1740s in Leipzig and are considered part of the core repertoire for the viola da gamba.

Sonata in G major, BWV 1027, is an arrangement of an earlier work, Trio Sonata for two flutes and basso continuo from the 1720s.

Sonata in D major, BWV 1028, uses the traditional Italian four-movement church sonata structure—slow, fast, slow, fast—of contrasting characters.

Sonata in G minor, BWV 1029, is noted for its high energy and its use of a three-movement concerto structure.

The Program: Sonata in G major, BWV 1027, Sonata in D major, BWV 1028, and Sonata in G minor, BWV 1029

The Musicians: Emily Walhout, viola da gamba, and Akiko Sato, harpsichord
