The Charles River Museum of Industry & Innovation is now offering a new FutureFixers Young Inventors “staycation” program.

Spend April Vacation Week with other 12-15 year-old boys & girls learning about innovation, looking for problems that need solving, and creating your very own inventions.

Plus, you will:

• Do “Making Stuff” projects created by NOVA

• Learn Steampunk design approaches from experts

• Get inspired by nature’s creative solutions

• Take things apart (and put them back together again, or not)

• Have fun trying lots of stuff that doesn’t work – at first!

All sessions will be held here in our historic and really cool museum!

Not only will you get to create your own inventions, you get to do so among some amazing innovations from the past.

The museum is located under the smokestack in the historic Francis Cabot Lowell Mill in the center of Waltham, Massachusetts, just 10 miles west of downtown Boston. From the North or South: From Interstate 95/Route 128, take exit 26 (Route 20 East) for 1.6 miles. At Waltham Common, turn right onto Moody St. Cross the river, turn left onto Pine St, and left onto Cooper St into the Embassy Theater parking lot. Then follow the signs and cross the footbridge. The museum entrance is below the smokestack. Do not park at the museum’s back door. Your car may be towed.
We do not have handicapped parking, but arrangements can be made.

TIPS↑ top

  • Tips for visiting:

  • Finding Us | The museum is located at the very back of the mill complex. Keep the giant smokestack in view; we’re located just below it.

  • Parking | Most of our visitors park in the Municipal Parking Lot on Pine Street, but there are several public parking lots and meters within walking distance.

  • Where to Eat | Waltham has more than 100 great restaurants, many of which are found near the museum on Moody or Main Street. Choose from incredible ethnic cuisine, fine dining, or good old American. Click here for a list of Main Street and Moody Street restaurants.

  • Food and Drinks in the Museum | Food and drinks are not allowed in the museum galleries except during private functions.

  • Photography | Still photography and video in the museum is permitted for personal use only. Tripods and lighting can be used with permission. Commercial photography/videography is by appointment only; location fees apply. No photographs or video may be reproduced, sold, or distributed without permission of the museum.

  • Coat Room | We have a coat room with coat racks where you may hang outerwear. Please do not leave valuables. The museum is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

  • Strollers | Baby strollers are allowed throughout the museum.

  • No Smoking | Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the museum.
