What would 'singing' vegetables sound like? The Fermentophone, created by multimedia artist Joshua Pablo Rosenstock, is a musical instrument played by the fermenting process of live bacteria and yeast.

The installation, new to the Microbial Life exhibit through Feb. 23, combines our love of fermented foods and the mysterious activities of the symbiotic microbiome.
