From Tuesday, April 18 through Friday, April 21, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) celebrates School Vacation Week by offering fun and creative activities designed to get kids excited about art. Free programs for kids with adult admission include:

  • Underground Railway Theatre: Performances based on the exhibition Degas to Picasso: Modern Masters.
  • Sidewalk Sam: Boston’s notorious sidewalk artist creates chalk drawings with families
  • Art Making Activities: Architecture activities, ranging from the creation of mini sculptural Chinese gardens to mini stained glass.
  • Post Card Exchange: The Third Annual Post Card Exchange with the MFA’s sister Museum in Nagoya, Japan. This year's theme is Auspicious or (Lucky) objects.

Saturday, April 22: Art in Bloom Family Day: Activities throughout the day such as Flower Theater, gallery crafts, and an opera for families.

In the spirit of the MFA’s Building Project, children will be able to design their own museums with inspiration from the art and architecture in the galleries. Additional activities include sculpting mini-Japanese courtyards, making miniature stained glass windows, creating sidewalk art with Sidewalk Sam, designing postcards as part of the third annual Post Card Exchange with the MFA’s sister Museum in Nagoya, Japan, and participating in Family Place––an exploration of art from around the world. The Underground Railroad Theatre will present interactive performances, inspired by the exhibition Degas to Picasso: Modern Masters.
