but we're going to make the attempt!
Join us for the Second Annual Costumers' Picnic, on Sunday, June 25, 2017 on the Charles River Esplanade.
Wear your historical finest-- whether it's Baroque brocade, Regency muslin, Victorian bustles, Edwardian whitework, Jazz Age garden party gear, or New Look circle skirts, everyone is welcome!* We're hoping to assemble a collection of ladies and gentlemen dressed in their summer best, sipping cool drinks, nibbling on dainty sandwiches, and generally looking fabulous, so if you've been looking for an excuse to break out a special vintage outfit or make a new one, here it is!**
Activities will include lawn games, dramatic readings (both poetry and excerpts from Fordyce's Sermons will be provided, depending on your taste), and charades.
Please feel free to bring your own edibles to consume or share, and make sure to RSVP via Facebook so we know how many guests to expect!
*Okay, not everybody-- please avoid anything more recent than the 1960s, our delicate sensibilities just couldn't take the 1970s avocado green and mustard yellow...
** Historical costumes are strongly encouraged, but not required.
If you want to participate but don't have anything 'good enough to wear,' we won't judge-- you're sure to make enough connections at the picnic that you'll be able to get something ready for next year!
In the meantime, shoot for something appropriate for an afternoon tea with your grandmother, and you'll be fine.
