It is an international event dedicated to raising awareness about autism.
On that day, landmarks around the world are illuminated in blue in support of those who live with autism.
Here at UMass Medical School, we have celebrated this event since 2010.
What began with lighting the medical school building blue has now grown into a community event where families and local service providers come together in a celebration of autism awareness and acceptance.
Together with Autism Resource Central, the UMass Medical School and UMassMemorial Health Care host this annual event that includes entertainment, food and music as well as a venue where community providers come to share information and resources with families.
HMEA - Autism Resource Central in West Boylston serves 3,500 families in Central Massachusetts; UMass Medical School and UMassMemorial Health Care have the only clinic in central and western Massachusetts serving children and adults with autism and complex presentations.
These organizations are dedicated to serving those with autism, and are committed to raising awareness and promoting acceptance for the community they support.
