Dover, NH celebrates 395 years as a settled community this year. The Children’s Museum of New Hampshire is celebrating its town’s history and community with four days of Dover-themed fun, from Tuesday, March 20th through Friday, March 23.

Natural History of Dover Day, Tuesday, March 20th, will invite visitors to dive deep into the museum’s CochecoSystem exhibit to learn about the local animals and environment.

Guests will learn about beavers with special storytimes, craft an Alewife and send it up the fish ladder, identify animal structures and learn more about the environment right outside their doors.

A special guest from the Seacoast Science Center will be on hand at noon to teach guests about Coastal Critters, and invite them to meet and touch some live sea creatures.

395 years makes for a lot of interesting history to explore, so on Wednesday, March 21st the theme is “Cocheco Industry.” Guests will learn all about the local history of the mills where children worked at cotton carding and weaving. Explore area inventions and inventors and examine tools used in the past with a special guest from the Woodman Museum from 1-4pm.

Dover is a town on the move! On Thursday, March 22, “Dover on the Go,” will be packed with special guests from the community. Dover Mounted Patrol will be on hand at 10am to kick off the day.

Fire Chief Eric Hagman, along with a fire engine and crew will park outside the museum at noon, giving kids a chance to explore. And an educator from the Gundalow Company in Portsmouth will talk about the Gundalow that resides in the Dover Adventure Playground from 3:30-4pm.

The week will end on Friday, March 23 with a “Community Helpers and Heroes” day. Guests will be invited to add to the museum’s “What you love about Dover” board, and will get to create a mail bag to take home, to help deliver important mail. Special guests Dover Mayor Karen Weston, here from 11am-1pm, and Dover Children’s Librarian Patty Falconer, here from 11-11:30am, will answer questions and do activities.

To learn more and get a detailed schedule for each themed “Dover Day” visit the museum’s website at www.childrens-museum.org. All activities are free with museum admission.
