It’s not every day one discovers vintage couture tucked away in a closet.

Recently, a visitor on a tour noticed some iconic fabric and raised the point that she believed them to be Mariano Fortuny gowns.

She was right!

Both garments, dating between 1920 and 1930, are velvet tabard gowns in Fortuny’s “Eleonora” Renaissance style and feature the famous pleating.

The two gowns have never-before been on display and were neatly folded on a shelf in Irene’s closet for decades.

The Fortuny Exhibit will run from September 6th through September 27th.

Nowhere else in the United States are any Fortuny gowns on public display, so don't miss your chance to see Fortuny!

Join us on September 6th at 7pm to be one of the first to view two rare, Mariano Fortuny gowns and to celebrate their formal addition to the Hammond Castle Museum Collection.

Head Archivist Alana Rooke will speak about the discovery and identification of these rare gowns, any necessary restoration and preservation efforts and their connection to Hammond Castle Museum.
