Friday Night Stargazing: Museum Of Science
Tucked away on the roof of the Museum's parking garage, the Gilliland Observatory is a wonderful resource for our starry-eyed public.
Join us on the roof every Friday night from mid-April thru mid-October for a stellar presentation equipped with a computer-controlled, Celestron CGE 1100 Schmidt Cassegrain telescope and staffed by knowledgeable Museum employees.
On clear nights, visit the Gilliland Observatory on the roof of the Museum's parking garage, where you can view stars, planets, the Moon, and other astronomical phenomena.
During inclement weather or less ideal stargazing conditions, join us indoors to discuss astronomy and perform hands-on activities near the entrance to the parking garage on Level 2. Look for the clear glass doors and our friendly Observatory staff members.
For more details, call our hotline, 617-589-0267, which we update by 5:30 pm each Friday.
Astronomy After Hours runs seasonally, from the first Friday in March to the last Friday before Thanksgiving.
Admission is free thanks to the generosity of the Lowell Institute (parking charges still apply).
In 2019, this seasonal program will run on Friday nights only, from April 5 – October 25.
Because sunset times shift throughout the season, program hours vary as follows:
April: 8:00 -10:00 pm
May, June, July, and August: 8:30 -10:30 pm
September: 8:00 – 10:00 pm
October: 7:30 – 9:30 pm
