Experience a 50 minute documentary premiere screening followed by an innovative and interactive 30 minute dance premiere performance of Jennifer Higdon's Violin Concerto with soloist Ilana Zaks and the all female, handpicked orchestra, Kairos Dance Theater and female digital artist, Fen Rotstein.

This will be followed by a 15 minute intermission.

Following the production, there will be a 15 minute Q and A period with the entire team.

The Film: The 50 minute film documentary focuses on the empowerment of women in the classical music, electronic production, film and dance industry giving women around Boston a chance to display their impeccable talents.

The film is about the “making of” the final performance with perspectives on gender disparity and career wisdom from the team and from interviewees.

Interviewees include:

Toby Perlman and her husband Itzhak Perlman, President Andrea Kalyn, choreographer Twyla Tharp, cellist Alisa Weilerstein, conductor Marin Alsop, cellist Merry Peckham, violist Kim Kashkashian, BSO violist Cathy Basrak, Theater director Judy Braha, dancer and choreographer Annabella Lenzu and composer Jennifer Higdon, violinists Mimi Rabson, Miriam Fried, Eden McAdam Somer and Hilary Hahn, conductors Lina Gonzalez and Erica Washburn, composers Kati Agócs, BSO horn player and (and first female brass player in the BSO) Rachel Childers.

The meetings, rehearsals, editing, making of the digital scenery/3D projection up until the final dress rehearsal are in the film.

The Performance: The 30 minute dance premiere performance of the Higdon violin Concerto is led by an NEC woman conductor, Sally Yu, with an all female orchestra comprised of NEC students with myself as soloist with the four dancers of Kairos Dance Theater, with the digital artist, Fen Rotstein controlling the projection as the performance continues; the product of a year and a half of hard work.
