The Phoenix, an innovative and free sober active community, will host the annual CrossFit “Murph” workout with a virtual event via Zoom on Monday, May 25 at 1:00 p.m.

This special annual workout is traditionally held at CrossFit gyms across the country every Memorial Day to honor veterans and is named for Lt. Michael Patrick “Murph” Murphy, a Navy SEAL killed in action in 2005 who was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor after his death.

The Phoenix’s “Murph” workout is free and open to anyone with 48 hours of continuous sobriety.

The workout, which Lt. Murphy called “Body Armor,” was a favorite of his and is now done in to honor him and fallen heroes everywhere.

The workout includes bent over rows, push-ups, and air squats, as well as a presentation of Murph’s story and the National Anthem.

The “Murph” workout is part of The Phoenix’s suite of free, live-streamed virtual fitness classes, wellness programming and online social events to provide critical support and social connection to this at-risk population during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Virtual classes are offered daily at www.thephoenix.org/virtual.

The Phoenix is a nonprofit organization that has inspired more than 36,000 individuals across America to redefine recovery through a unique model that helps people recover from substance use disorders and heal from related adverse experiences by leveraging the transformative power of social connection and physical activity.

Memberships are free of charge for anyone with a minimum 48 hours of continuous sobriety and include daily classes ranging from CrossFit and boxing to yoga and climbing.
