Join us to learn about the Stone Living Lab, an exciting new initiative in Boston Harbor that will use cutting-edge research and public education initiatives to help solve some of Boston's most pressing climate change threats.

You will hear about the mission of the lab, find out what exactly a 'living lab' is, learn about our new research projects, and discover how you can get involved!

The program will be led by:

Marc Albert, Director of Natural Resource Partnerships at the National Parks of Boston

Dr. Mark Borrelli, Director of the Coastal Processes and Ecosystems Laboratory (CaPE Lab) at UMass Boston

And Rebecca Shoer, Cabot Education and Community Engagement Program Manager at the Stone Living Lab,

The Stone Living Lab conducts transformative research and outreach to make vulnerable coastal regions adaptive to climate change while enhancing natural and built environments.

The goal is to engage researchers, students, and the public in testing innovative, adaptive, nature-based approaches to climate adaptation, coastal resilience, and ecological restoration in a variety of coastal locations in and around Boston Harbor.

The Four Core Priorities of the Stone Living Lab

1) Research: Conducting experiments in science and engineering to increase the resiliency of natural and developed coastal systems while maximizing co-benefits and promoting ecological restoration.

2) Climate Preparedness: Promoting creative, equitable, and flexible coastal adaptation while preparing for and responding to climate change.

3) Education: Engaging our communities in education and outreach programs that promote innovation and environmental justice, and facilitate hands-on research activities inclusive to all.

4) Policy: Collaborating broadly to conduct research on policy and planning, disseminate scientific findings, inform policy development, and implement the lessons learned from the Stone Living Lab.
