Description: Basic Black is the longest running program on public television focusing on the interests of people of color.
The show, which was originally called Say Brother, was created in 1968 during the height of the civil rights movement as a response to the demand for public television programs reflecting the concerns of communities of color.
The evening begins with a LIVE broadcast of Basic Black in WGBH’s Calderwood Studio, followed by a discussion with the featured program’s panelists and the live studio audience.
Later, there will be a dessert reception where guests have an opportunity to mingle with individuals involved with the production over the decades and reminisce with friends and supporters from the Greater Boston community.
