The book and sideline collections are very carefully selected and maintained. There are now nearly 17,000 titles in our stock list, of which around 12,000 are in the store on any given day, chiefly for readers aged 0-16, parents and teachers. In addition, a small section of about 250 titles represents current adult titles in fiction, biography, social commentary and science for the lay reader. They are glad to special order any book in print, and most orders can be filled in 2-5 days.
You can find books to buy anywhere, but this thorough and thoughtfully assembled group of books is one of a small handful in North America. This is a wonderful bookstore for any age, presented to you with pride.
Tuesday is StoryTime at Eight Cousins!
10:30 AM
Weekly story time will be held every Tuesday at 10:30am during the summer. Staff member Jean Helm, who has just about read every picture book in our store, is delighted to be the designated 'entertainer.' The books chosen are appropriate for preschoolers, and each week will be devoted to one theme.
Directions from everywhere:
If you don't know where you're going.....here's the way to Eight Cousins - from every direction.
Finding Eight Cousins if you already know Falmouth, MA
We're on Main Street, in the heart of historic Falmouth Village. The building is situated between Town Hall Square and Puritan Clothing. Directly across the street is the Village Cafe. Eight Cousins occupies half of this 2-story red brick building, and has a clear sign above its three arched windows.
Finding Eight Cousins if you don't know Falmouth, MA
From the North First, get yourself to Cape Cod: Go to the Bourne Bridge over the Cape Cod Canal. (Highway 25 is usually the most direct route, but that depends on your point of origin.)
Crossing the Bourne Bridge, go around the rotary and into Highway 28 South. (This is 4-lane, but busy and with unlimited access: a dangerous section until you reach the Otis Rotary, about 4 miles south; after that it's limited access.) In just about 14.5 miles from the bridge, 28 goes from 4 lanes to 2. Start measuring distance from this point.
Go 1.2 miles and you'll be at a stoplight. Continue on through this light, for one half mile. Look for standard highway signs on the right that indicate 'Falmouth Center,' and a left turn. These signs are sometimes obscured by foliage, so another landmark at the desired left is a building clearly marked 'Queen's Buyway,' on your left as you approach it, but on your right as you make the turn. (If you overshoot the left turn, you'll come to a blinker light; if you WAY overshoot, you'll head to Woods Hole. Easiest reprieve is to find a place to turn around, and come back for another pass.)
When you turn -- technically the street is Palmer Ave. -- after one short block the street jogs, and then forks around the triangular village green. Take the left fork, and, yielding to the usual slow-moving traffic, merge on into what is pretty obviously Main Street at the end of the green. Go one block (but there aren't really any blocks) and watch on your right for a 2-story brick building with lots of painted georgian woodwork. Eight Cousins occupies half of this building, and has a clear sign above its three arched windows. It's unusual to find a parking space directly in front of the store, but often possible to find one in Town Hall Square, which you've already passed just before Eight Cousins, and which is also accessible from behind Eight Cousins.
From Eastern Cape Cod
From the Mashpee Rotary, take Route 28 straight into the village (bear right at the fork near the Falmouth Plaza). We are on the left side of Main Street (#189) just before the Town Hall Square. See description of building above.
