fairbanks house museum photoStep back to 1637 at the Fairbanks House in Dedham, the oldest known timber frame house still standing in North America.

Built for Jonathan and Grace Fairbanks and their six children, it remained home to eight generations of the Fairbanks family for 269 years.

Now a historic house museum on the National Register of Historic Places, it offers guided tours that bring this remarkable piece of early American history to life.

Guided 50-minute tours are available by reservation on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from May through October.

Visitors can also explore the grounds and historic herb garden. The house features narrow doorways, varying ceiling heights, and a few stairs; chairs are available in each room for those who prefer to be seated.

Tour reservations can be made at fairbankshouse.org.
