Every Sunday from the last Sunday of April until the 2nd Sunday of November, Memorial Drive (Mem Drive to locals) is closed to traffic between Western Avenue and Mount Auburn Street, and open to recreation! State statute requires that Riverbend Park be open on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. between the last Sunday in April and the second Sunday in November.
This means that the portion of Memorial Drive between Western Avenue and Gerry's Landing Road will close to cars so that pedestrians, cyclists and others can enjoy the riverfront roadway without cars.
Bring your bike, inline skates, running shoes, strollers or walking feet to take advantage of the unique access to this normally busy road with views of the Charles each summer Sunday. Fun for all ages, families & visitors.
Between Sunday, April 27, 2025 and Sunday, November 9, 2025, DCR will open Riverbend Parking each Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. for pedestrian and cyclist use, weather permitting.
