ocean science exhibit center woods hole oceanographic inst photoThe Ocean Science Exhibit Center at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution houses exhibits of the Institution's ocean science research and the vessels and tools developed by WHOI engineers and scientists for use in that research.

Visitors will also find WHOI merchandise in the Gift Shop located in the Ocean Science Exhibit Center.

Exhibits
Short videos provide an introduction to WHOI, show a day in the life of the deep submersible Alvin, and highlight the discovery and exploration of the wreck of the Titanic. Step inside a full-size model of the inner sphere of Alvin and imagine life at the ocean floor while watching vivid footage taken at deep-sea hydrothermal vent sites. Other exhibits and videos feature the life forms and natural processes of the deep sea.

Group Visits
Each year, more than 4,500 grade school students visit the center. Volunteers are available to provide short, informative presentations.

We will help groups of 10 or more arrange a visit to the Center and provide information packets and maps in advance of your visit. We also ask that groups of 10 or more people call for a reservation at (508) 289-2663.

Workshops for Educators
Twice each year, teachers from across the region gain first-hand access to scientists at workshops at the Ocean Science Exhibit Center

Summer Walking Tours
During the summer months, knowledgeable WHOI volunteers guide visitors on free walking tours through the WHOI dock area and other restricted village facilities.

Launched from the WHOI Information Office at 93 Water Street in the center of Woods Hole village, the tours take approximately one hour and fifteen minutes and provide excellent background on the research conducted at WHOI and on the history of the Institution. Tours run in July and August, Monday through Friday at 10:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 p.m. Please contact the Information Office for a reservation as space is limited. Telephone (508) 289-2252
