Agassiz Village is an overnight, summer camp located on Thompson Lake in Poland, Maine that offers underserved, inner-city, Boston youth the opportunity, in a village environment, to develop and practice leadership & life skills that will enhance their ability to be successful and happy in all areas of their lives.
The camp helps boys and girls develop to their fullest potential and identify their own gifts, interests, and strengths, by exposing them to new skills, experiences, and possibilities in a positive and fun setting.
Programs are an investment in the future, to inspire and enable all children, especially those who need support the most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible leaders. Agassiz Village campers take with them our values of responsibility, self-confidence, service to others and a commitment to learning.
The camp opened in 1935, and today serves over 1,000 kids and teens (8 to 17 years old) each summer from the greater Boston area. Agassiz Village is open to all children, however, focuses on underserved children in the greater Boston Area.
Nearly 90% of Agassiz Village campers come from low-income or poverty level households, and 100% of our campers receive some level of financial assistance to attend.
The hope is that all children attending the camp will develop the tools to create and recognize opportunity throughout their lives, understand the broad range of possibilities open to them, appreciate the value of good friends, have the courage to dream big, and the discipline to make those dreams come true.
