The famed Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater announced a free virtual season of works slated for December 2020.

The infectious sense of joy and freedom of spirit that the Ailey company communicates with every every inspiring moment on stage by every brilliant dancer is a wonder.

Don’t miss one of the most beloved dance companies in the world.

New pieces presented include Testament, a modern-day approach to Revelations, curated by Associate Artistic Director Matthew Rushing alongside Clifton Brown, Yusha-Marie Sorzano and Damien Sneed on scoring.

There will also be an Ailey & Ellington program composed of 14 ballets choreographed by Ailey during his career that honor Duke Ellington, including a remake of Pas de Duke filmed on top of NYC’s Woolworth Building. Jamal Roberts will also be presenting A Jam Session For Troubling Times, in honor of the centennial celebration of Charlie “Bird” Parker.

In addition to the reimagined Revelations and roster of new works, the virtual season will also feature varied educational programming, including an interactive Family Matinee to engage the next generation of theatergoers.

Season features include:

A celebration of the 60th anniversary of Alvin Ailey’s Revelations including 'Revelations Reimagined' during our Opening Night Virtual Benefit on December 2.

Interactive family programs, one focused on Revelations and another — 'Ailey & Ellington' — focused on the collaboration between Alvin Ailey and the great jazz composer Duke Ellington. 'Ailey & Ellington' will feature an excerpt of Pas de Duke recently filmed atop New York’s iconic Woolworth Building.

Talks with Artistic Director Robert Battle and special guests.

A farewell performance honoring longtime Company members Glenn Allen Sims and Linda Celeste Sims, featuring a newly-filmed excerpt from Billy Wilson’s The Winter in Lisbon.

The world premiere of A Jam Session for Troubling Times by Company member and Resident Choreographer Jamar Roberts. Set to the music of jazz saxophonist and composer Charlie 'Bird' Parker, this work uses the energy, nuance, and virtuosity of the ‘bebop’ sound as a vehicle to lift our spirits and demonstrate that we are stronger than our circumstances.

The world premiere of Testament by Associate Artistic Director Matthew Rushing, Company member and Assistant to the Rehearsal Director Clifton Brown, and former Company member Yusha-Marie Sorzano. The work is a contemporary response to Alvin Ailey’s Revelations that illuminates the enduring impact of the beloved classic 60 years after its creation, set to an original score by composer Damien Sneed.

'Decades of Revelations', with excerpts captured over the last 60 years on film and video. Many of these highlights have been unseen by the public for decades.

The show kicks off with a Revelations Reimagined opening night benefit stream December 2.
