School vacation will be here before you know it. We’d love to have your child with us to create art, build connections, get messy, and have fun!

United South End Settlements’ Children’s Art Centre will be offering a vacation program for children between the ages of 4.5 and 10 to explore visual arts as well as gain exposure to creative movement, performing arts and music.

The Vacation Art Program will provide engaging, hands-on experience with drawing, painting, sculpture, creative drama, yoga and many other creative activities.

February Vacation Art Program Hours:
Tuesday through Friday, 8:00 am – 5:30 pm

Eligibility: Children must be between the ages of 4.5 -10 years old. Children must have turned 4 by January 1, 2009. The program is designed to provide a nurturing environment for artistic expression and creativity for children who are interested in the arts. This program is not a good fit for children who are not interested in the arts.

Arts Activities
Each day, children are given the opportunity to engage in a wide variety of visual arts projects and techniques ranging from crafts projects to painting, printmaking and sculpture. All artwork is yours to take home at the end of the session.

Children are taught traditional technical skills but will also be encouraged to work on original creations and are given freedom to use their imaginations creative problem-solving. The Vacation Arts Program is a non-competitive environment that encourages each young artist to develop their interests, grow in their own personal style, and work with others as they explore the world of art.

Enrichment Classes
Yoga: Youth will participate in a Yoga class by Urbanity Instructors that will help develop strength, flexibility, coordination and focus. Through the use of Yoga postures children experience new ways to move their bodies and express themselves.

Creative Movement & Dance
Through a partnership with Urbanity Dance Studio, children will learn a variety of contemporary dance techniques such as jazz, ballet and hip hop.
Musical Theater: Rhythm, Beats & Tones will provide an exciting, expressive, and fun environment to stimulate children’s developing brains.

Field Trips
Each week participants go on a field trip for further arts and cultural exposure. Past field trips have included: African drumming and stilt walking at Spontaneous Celebrations, museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Center for the Arts, Plays in the Park.

If applicable, children will be taking public transportation to and from this location. There is no additional cost of participating in field trips and a bagged lunch is provided. Specific information regarding field trips each session will be sent at the start of the program.
