During the month of February, there will be many special events hosted around Boston celebrating the accomplishments and contributions of the Black community, acknowledging Black leaders, activists and trailblazers who fought so hard for diversity, equality and inclusion.

Mayor Walsh and the City of Boston will celebrate Black History Month in February with the following events:

Our Story! A Celebration of the African American Experience
February 9, 2019 - 7:00pm - 9:00pm
A compilation of poetry, dance, music and scenes from historical and current events significant to African and African-American history.
The Strand Theatre, Dorchester, MA

We Who Believe in Freedom: A Community Reading Event with Mimi Jones
February 12, 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
Long-time Roxbury resident, community organizer, and Civil Rights veteran Mimi Jones to facilitate a community reading series of works by influential women and people of color. Event is free, a hearty reception will be served.

Untold American Stories
February Vacation Week - 2/19 - 2/22
Explore inspirational tales of an African American inventor, a dancer, and a freedom fighter! In collaboration with Sweet Blackberry, the Library will offer activities centered on an invention, dance, poetry, and art-making—to complement short film screenings.

BLS Presents “'da Kink in my Hair”

This show explores the lives and experiences of black women with a cast of all black female actors. A shortened in-school show will be presented on Friday, February 8, before going to the Massachusetts Thespians Festival the next day.
