Children’s Services of Roxbury (CSR) is pleased to host John Barros, Interim Executive Director at the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority (MCCA), and Dr. Karilyn Crockett, Professor of Urban History, Public Policy, and Planning at MIT, as the featured guests for its next ROXTalks event.

On Tuesday, April 14, from 12 to 1 p.m., CSR President and CEO Sandra M.

McCroom will lead a discussion with Barros and Crockett about unlocking education and workforce pathways to advance economic opportunity and create lasting change in communities of color.

Amid the federal administration’s attacks on DEI and fallout from the Supreme Court’s effective ban on affirmative action, historically marginalized communities face heightened disparities in access to work and educational opportunities.

In this timely episode of the CSR ROXTalks series, McCroom, Barros, and Crockett will offer insight, lived experience, and actionable perspectives on building stronger, more equitable systems that support upward mobility.

About ROXTalks:
ROXTalks is a platform created by Children’s Services of Roxbury (CSR) for meaningful dialogues with elected officials and leaders across the Commonwealth focused on transforming the social and economic health of communities of color, breaking the cycle of systemic racism, and building a more equitable Massachusetts.

About Children’s Services of Roxbury:
Children’s Services of Roxbury (CSR) is celebrating 50 years of providing wraparound programs for children and families that include family shelter, culturally attuned behavioral health services, foster care and family support services, early education and childcare, and youth development programs.

CSR is one of Massachusetts’ largest Black-run nonprofit organizations, led by a Board and staff that represent the diverse communities it serves.

CSR’s programs and services demonstrate practices that break the cycle of systemic racism for future generations and empower families and young adults on their journey from poverty to stability and wealth-building.
