The Pigeon Comes to Boston: A Mo Willems Exhibit
The Pigeon Comes to Boston brings the imagination, whimsy, and humor of children's book author and illustrator Mo Willems to Boston Children's Museum this fall.Familiar characters take over the galleries, including best friend duo Elephant and Piggie, faithful companion Knuffle Bunny, and The Pigeon, the wily city bird from Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!
Kids can climb aboard a life size wearable bus and drive through the exhibit, launch foam hot dogs at The Pigeon with the Hot Dog Launcher, and steer a cookie past obstacles in Cookie Plinko.
Other stops include a phone booth that transforms your voice into Gerald's or Piggie's, a praxinoscope that animates the characters through spinning mirrors, and a fashion runway for Wilbur the Naked Mole Rat.
The Art Studio invites visitors to sketch Willems' characters or invent their own at drawing tables, and light tables let younger kids trace favorites.
The exhibit also includes a special gallery of 20 framed reproductions of Willems' original drawings and sketches, tracing the evolution of his best loved characters.
The exhibit is co-organized by the Children's Museum of Pittsburgh and The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst.
