Join The Trustees to hear from author Patrick Martins on Saturday, October 24th in celebration of National Food Day.

Author Patrick Martins is an agent of change within the farm and food industry.

Martins believes that humans have evolved to eat meat but given the destructive forces of the fast-food industry and factory farming, we need to make smart, informed choices about the food we eat and where it comes from.

In The Carnivore's Manifesto: Eating Well, Eating Responsibly, and Eating Meat, Martins, of Heritage Foods USA and founder of Slow Food USA and Heritage Radio, outlines realistic steps everyone can take to be part of the sustainable-food movement.

Patrick's lecture will be followed by a seasonal farm dinner in the beautiful Carriage Barn at Appleton Farms in Ipswich, MA.

Dinner will include a sampling of Appleton’s cheeses followed by a full, buffet dinner, dessert, coffee, and a book signing.

Cash bar of local beers and wines.

Menu to include:
Assorted farm cheeses with fruit
White Park Short Rib Wellington
Sauteed local chicken with mushrooms and capers in a lemon-white wine sauce
Quinoa salad with radish, green onions, roasted red peppers and spinach in olive oil and citrus dressing
Roasted potatoes with garlic and fresh herbs
Carrot and parsnip puree
Roasted brussel sprouts with brown butter and toasted pine nuts
Kale, chard and farm cheese casserole (great option for vegetarians)
Roasted pear and pine nut bread pudding with home made caramel sauce and farm made vanilla ice cream

Trustees staff will be on hand to speak about how the organization supports sustainable, local farming and meat production through our agriculture program.

The Trustees have four community farms, which include Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) programs, a dairy, and several grass fed beef operations.

We are known for raising distinctive heritage breeds of cattle, such as White Parks and Belted Galloways, and have a strong commitment to sustainability and the ethical treatment of our animals.

The Trustees also lease land to partner farms around the state, own a network of sixty community gardens in Boston, and offer hundreds of farm and garden-based educational programs on our properties each year.

We look forward to welcoming you to this exciting event at Appleton Farms!
