About the Artist: Bren Bataclan is a Cambridge-based artist who was born in the Philippines and grew up in the San Francisco area.

In the early 2000s, Bren began giving away paintings in public spaces with a note saying, 'This painting is yours if you promise to smile at random people more often.' Since then, he has given away 3,000 paintings in 70 different countries and to all 50 U.S. states.

Bren studied design at UCLA and computer animation at the Ohio State University.

Food has the unique power to bring together family, neighbors, and strangers.

The In the Kitchen series highlights the stories, knowledge, and recipes from residents, artists, and Chinatown community members.

Drop in for 1 or all 3 classes that feature the culture-rich foods of the Asian community and connect with other participants and the instructor while enjoying your edible creations.

Enjoying our latest exhibit, Kulap?

Get to know the artist behind the exhibit, Bren Bataclan, by learning to cook one of his favorite dishes, Tortang Talong, alongside him.

Share a bite with him as he shares his vegetarian version of this Filipino egg and eggplant dish.
