Offering support and resources for children, young adults and families facing some of life's greatest challenges- mental, behavioral and emotional health issues- Wayside serves over 5,000 individuals every year!
Wayside began in 1977 when the first emergency shelters for runaway/homeless youth opened in New England- Harbinger House- and throughout the years has grown to incorporate a number of long-standing community organizations that share Wayside's mission: Empowering children, young adults and families to achieve greater independence and emotional well-being.
The 8th Annual 5K4Kids Run/Walk & Halloween Festival is Wayside's largest, and only, fundraiser of the year.
The day begins with a professionally timed 5-km run/walk and follows with a Halloween Festival featuring bounce houses, obstacle courses, pumpkin decorating, airbrush tattoos and community businesses and organizations.
Last year's event saw nearly 300 participants and raised over $100,000 to support Wayside children and families.
To-date, Wayside has raised over $500,000 since the event started in 2009.
This year's 5K4Kids will take place on Saturday, October 21, 2017, from 10am-1pm at Walsh Middle School in Framingham, MA.
In addition to the 5K Run/Walk and Halloween Festival, we hold one grand prize raffle: a $5,000 voucher for a vacation to the destination of your choice through our travel agency, Travel Concepts, in Framingham.
Each year, Wayside staff form teams to sell raffle tickets, and whatever money is raised stays within the program so they decide how to use funds- whether it's providing a volunteer thank you lunch or buying train/bus passes for at-risk/homeless young adults- all of the money benefits Wayside youth!
