We are all touched in some way by the opioid epidemic as family members, friends, co-workers, neighbors, and community members.

Today, we invite you to be part of creating a community portrait of addiction, recovery and the future of prevention in Boston.

Making art together and sharing our stories is one way to remember and honor a family member or friend, share our own experience with addiction, end the stigma of addiction, and build a stronger community.

The art we create together can be an expression of trauma, loss, resiliency and hope.

The art is also symbolic of our recognition that addiction is a community problem and we all share responsibility to address it.

We invite you to paint, write, or add a keepsake in remembrance of a loved one or your own experience.

Typically, a project like this might take several hours or even days, allowing for in-depth emotional processing.

This event, by necessity, will be much shorter.

Knowing this in advance may help determine what you choose to create and share.

Expect to spend 30 minutes at one of our canvases.

Our artists will help to guide you through the art-making.

We wish to make this a safe space to express your feelings through the art.

We’ll be working together with four people to each canvas.

We encourage you to meet each other and work together in a spirit of respect and collaboration.

No art experience is necessary; just a willingness to explore, create and share.

MGH clinicians will be present throughout the day for support should you need it.

We also invite you to record a comment or memory to help us create a collection of community voices.

These recordings will be edited, and may be paired with the art piece we create.

No preparation is required; we will prompt you with specific questions to which there are no right answers.

All materials will be provided.

Unfortunately, we are not able to return mementos.

Thank you for being part of this important community experience.
