cancelled skating club of bostons tree lighting skating spectacular photoBostonís iconic Frog Pond will have a new look this year with a temporary rink for the 2021-2022 skating season. The oldest outdoor skating rink in New England, which was ranked as the #1 outdoor skating rink in the U.S. by USA Today, needs maintenance that can only take place during the off-season so a temporary rink needs to be installed before it is ready to open.

Unfortunately, with the delayed opening, the annual Tree Lighting Skating Spectacular scheduled for Thursday, December 2nd will be canceled.

Tree Lighting Skating Spectacular- Thursday, Dec. 2nd at Frog Pond

The Frog Pond is excited to welcome the holiday season with a FREE ice skating show featuring a cast of local skaters from The Skating Club of Boston and special guest star, Skate America and U.S. Champion, Max Aaron! After the show, the City of Boston will ceremoniously flip the switch and light up the trees of the Boston Common for the holidays!

The annual Boston Tree Lighting Skating Spectacular at the Boston Common Frog Pond will take place on Thursday, December 2nd at 5:00 pm.

The Skating Spectacular, which is free and open to the public, offers the public a chance to see national and international competitive figure skaters, soloists, groups, wee skaters, and Team Excel Synchronized Skating and Theatre On Ice of Boston teams all in the middle of the historic and iconic Boston Common.

Scott Hamilton will be on hand to greet skaters and the general public and talk to the crowd about his CARES Foundation, which supports cancer research, education and survivorship.

The general public can support the CARES Foundation and The Skating Club of Bostonís local initiative at Proceeds from these events will benefit CARES Foundation, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Mass General Brigham.
