Bird is the word!Join us at historic Powisset Farm for a Nest Box Workshop!
During this guided, hands-on workshop, participants will make their own nest boxes and learn about the importance of nest boxes to ornithological work.
Participants will build Eastern Bluebird nest boxes on site, which they can bring home and install in their own backyard.
During the breeding season, nest boxes provide secure housing for birds to build nests and care for their young.
These boxes provide a critical alternative for birds who lack proper space to nest due to land development.
The Trustees have installed boxes at several locations to support species such as the Eastern Bluebird, whose numbers have steadily increased since the widespread implementation of nest boxes.
Volunteers and citizen scientists alike use Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s NestWatch Program to monitor life outcomes of nesting birds throughout the nation.
No prior experience is required for this workshop.
All materials will be provided.
This program is recommended for ages 12 and up.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Please keep in mind that we will be working with several large power tools and carpentry equipment, including drills, hammers, and screwdrivers.
Long pants and close-toed shoes are strongly encouraged.
This program is in partnership with TerraCorps and will be lead by a TerraCorps volunteer.
