Their ever-evolving, alrways show has entertained over 1000 audiences around the world, but the Regattabar in Cambridge MA is home.
With six horns and a grooving rhythm section, the E/O returned from a six year performing break to the R-bar last December with two sold-out shows and an ecstatic reunion crowd.
On Friday, June 5, they will be doing one show only at 7:30 with frequent collaborator, female Ethiopian vocalist Munit Mesfin.
Munit is a star in Ethiopia and the Washington DC area, where hundreds of thousands of Ethiopian expats live.
The E/O and Munit will play exotic and entrancing songs by Mahmoud Ahmed, Bezunesh Bekele and other Ethiopian greats.
Some of the material comes from the E/O's new release, éthiopiques 32: Nalbandian the Ethiopian.
Nerses Nalbandian was an Armenian refugee who rose to become Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie's favorite musician.
Nalbandian's eclectic taste and interest in American jazz and Latrin music helped revolutionize the music of Ethiopia.
