Come visit Manomet’s Bird Banding Lab this June 3 for our biannual Family Day, when we’ll open our doors to visitors of all ages to witness live demonstrations of the bird research happening on our campus!

This is always a fun and informative day for kids of all ages!

For over 50 years, the Landbird Conservation staff at Manomet has collected meticulous data every spring and fall, observing migration patterns of songbirds by catching, banding, and releasing them.

Our banding team operates the lab Monday through Friday from dawn until dusk, averaging around 2,000 birds caught each season, taking detailed notes and observations on each and every one.

Not only do we use these data for scientific research, but for outreach and education, too!

We have a long history of welcoming schools and visitors from around the area to investigate our methods and learn a thing or two about the centuries-old practice of mist netting and bird banding.

We will begin promptly at 8:30 AM, when birds are more likely to be stirring.

Feel free to bring a snack to enjoy in our seaside garden scape.
