Day of the Dead family party

20th Anniversary Celebration!

Activities and Schedule

Learn more about this joyful holiday, a national symbol of Mexico shared with the world.

The annual tradition of constructing Ofrendas with photos, favorite foods, and keepsakes of the departed encourages visitation from souls, and is an occasion to honor and celebrate the lives of the departed.

Enjoy three floors of activities for kids and kids at heart, including arts and crafts, scent stations, traditional decorations, Nahuatl stories, sugar skull decoration (additional charge), painting demonstrations, folk dances, and two musical performances live.

Outside the museum, visitors will be able to purchase Mexican hot chocolate, pot coffee, pan de muerto, and tamales from Jose's Torta Mexicana .

The food trucks of Tenoch andNorth East of the Border will also have delicious tortas and tacos for sale.

Free activities with admission to the museum.

Extra sugar skulls ($7 each).

Co-sponsored by the Peabody Museum of Archeology and Ethnology, the Harvard Museums of Science and Culture, the Consulate General of Mexico in Boston, and the David Rockefeller Center for Latin American Studies at Harvard University .

Activities and Schedule

The activities will take place on the first, third and fourth floors.

Stroller parking and cloakroom are located on the 1st floor.

There is additional space for strollers in the Climate Change exhibit on the 3rd floor.

• SUGAR SKULLS WORKSHOP
Decorate a sugar skull. Cost: $7 per piece. Only credit or debit cards are accepted. Availability by order of arrival. Last time to participate: 3:30 pm.

• CONFETTI
Make a piece of papel picado like the ones in the museum.

• SKULL MASK
Decorate a skull mask

• PAPER FLOWERS
Make a traditional cempasuchil flower with paper.

•MEXICAN FIGURES
Explore a colorful collection of alebrijes by the Oaxacan artist Norberto Fabian. The figures will be for sale.

• LOVE MESSAGES
Welcome your deceased loved ones with a handwritten message placed on the community altar.

• KNOW THE OFFERING
Explore the meaning of the objects on the altar.

• WORDS IN NAHUATL
Learn words and phrases in an indigenous Mexican language.

• DANCE OF THE DEVILS
Learn about an Afro-Mexican Day of the Dead tradition!

• SCENTS OF THE DAY
Use your nose to discover some aromas associated with the celebration.

• FOOD AND COFFEE TRUCKS
Buy bread of the dead, tacos, hot chocolate or cakes outside the museum, near the Divinity Avenue entrance.

Re-entry is allowed.
