Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice of Brighton and Norwood is pleased to announce the opening of 'Nanny’s Nook,' a children’s bereavement resource center in its Brighton office. The center features an expanding library of death and dying literature for children, teenagers, and their parents who are either anticipating the death of a close family member or friend, or who have recently experienced a loss.
The center features a variety of books, games, and videos to help children and teens cope with issues of loss and grief in a cozy, child-friendly setting. Parents and children may visit the center to make use of its collection. A bereavement professional is available to work with them and to offer emotional support in preparing for a loss or after a loss has been experienced.
The center is named for Norinne C. Walsh, who was cared for by Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice. It was created in her memory through the generosity of her daughters, Inez Moore and Toni Curry, and their families. Nanny’s Nook honors Mrs. Walsh’s love of children and her love of reading stories together with her own grandchildren.
Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice is located at 310 Allston Street, Brighton. Nanny’s Nook is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 – 5:00, by appointment only. Please call Margo Steinberg, Bereavement Coordinator, at 617-566-6242 so that staff can be available at the time of your visit.
Caritas Good Samaritan Hospice is a non-profit hospice agency serving people of all faiths in over 60 communities in Greater Boston.
