Boston Common is Boston, Massachusetts' most famous public park and the oldest city park in the United States, dating as far back as 1634. It is 50 acres in size.
The Common is bounded by Tremont Street, Park Street, Beacon Street, Charles Street, and Boylston Street. A visitors' center for all of Boston is on the Tremont Street side of the park.
Today it serves as a public park for all to use for formal or informal gatherings, or just to enjoy the park and its surroundings.
Events such as concerts, protests, carousel rides, softball games, keeping cool in Frog Pond's giant spray fountain & wading pool on hot summer days, and then ice skating in winter are popular activities and events.
Right next to the Frog Pond is a wonderful playground for children of all ages to enjoy. Turn around and you'll see the famous Gold Dome of the Boston Statehouse across Beacon Street.
Frog Pond Spray Pool, Fountain & Ice Rink
A year-round recreational facility, the Frog Pond offers ice skating in the winter and a spray pool and supervised wading for youngsters in the summer. The facility is managed by the Boston Common Frog Pond Foundation and staffed by youth workers from the Boston Youth Fund.
The Common is a quick walk to Charles Street, The Charles River Esplanade, and Beacon Hill. The Boston Common is also in close proximity to Chinatown, Newbury Street and Downtown Crossing.
Other attraction that are between a 7-15 minute walk away include Quincy Market, Old North Church, Boston Children's Museum, The Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) Boston Tea Party Ship & Museum, The USS Constitution, Boston Public Garden,The Boston State House, The Museum of Fine Arts, and Fenway Park.
