designmy education photoAt DesignMy Education, we believe entrepreneurship is not learned, it is experienced. We have created one of the most engaging and practical entrepreneurship programs for middle school students (ages 11-15).

We call it the most engaging because students actually create a real product, do real marketing, see real analytics and earn real profits. We call it the most practical because there are no lectures or textbooks.

Students and mentored and given resources in structured workshops that take them from ideation, creation, sales, failure and growth. Students learn these stages by building a skillset and learning from failure.

The total program is 20 hours long and split into two halves.

First Half is “Skillset Building.” Students are split into teams. Each team answers five key questions that guide them through the initial stages of entrepreneurship, focusing on choosing a target group, understanding customer needs, creating and refining a final product and creating and executing a Go-To-Market strategy to show the world their amazing product.

Second Half is “Learn by Failure.” Students answer another set of five questions that lead them through the later stages of the entrepreneurial journey. This half involves learning from the results of their efforts. This includes the crucial concept of 'learning by failure.”

When they do not reach their goals, they learn and understand their failures. This helps them in improving their strategies to combat failure. To help them form better and stronger plans, they learn about how to use analytics, financial literacy, advanced marketing techniques, raising money and investor pitches.

One of the best things about our program is that student products stay on our marketplace even after the program ends.

Anyone can see their live product analytics on our website. Students work towards more sales and even more products. Some students are starting new businesses and using the strategies they learned in the program. This is what DesignMy Education is all about.

Our program is taught as an after-school and summer program by our partner locations that are schools, YMCAs, libraries, etc.

Currently our partner locations include the Charles River YMCA, Teen Central at Boston Public Library - Copley and Boston Public Library - Grove Hall. Our after-school programs run during the Fall, Winter and Spring semesters for 5 to 8 weeks, with 1 to 2 classes a week. Our summer programs run for 2 weeks, Monday through Friday.

Our mission is to instill the entrepreneurial spirit and mindset in the youth so they strive to solve the world’s problems as the next generation of entrepreneurs.
