first night first day boston celebration 2025 photoNew Englanders will once again ring in the New Year in style: First Night Boston will return to the city for a series of in-person celebrations on Dec. 31, 2024.

Since 1975, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season and the beginning of a new year.

Starting at noon on Friday, Dec. 31, many of the beloved traditions of First Night’s past will continue, including cultural and musical performances, fantastic ice sculptures, light displays, and 2 fireworks displays. (7:00pm family fireworks on Boston Common & 12:00 midnight at Boston Harbor).

The First Night Boston Parade will once again march from City Hall Plaza to Boston Common with a spectacular line-up of participants on New Year's Eve. The parade starts at 6:00 p.m., and once the performers pass by, the public is invited to walk along to the Boston Common, where fireworks will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Event Highlights

Waterfront Ice Sculpture Stroll Presented by: Boston Harbor Now
Get ready to count down to 2025 with over TWO dozen ice sculptures hosted by businesses and cultural sites across the Boston waterfront – the largest Waterfront Ice Sculpture Stroll ever!
When: December 31, 1pm – 4pm

Skating Spectacular at Frog Pond
Join The Skating Club of Boston and the City of Boston for the Frog Pond Skating Spectacular on New Year’s Eve, Tuesday, December 31st at 3:00pm & 5:30pm. Ring in the new year with family and friends.

Parade Procession
The First Night Boston Parade will once again march from City Hall Plaza to Boston Common with a spectacular line-up of participants on New Year's Eve. The parade starts at 6:00 p.m., and once the performers pass by, the public is invited to walk along to the Boston Common, where fireworks will begin at 7:00 p.m.

Ice Sculptures
Ice sculptures make their dazzling return to First Night Boston! Sculptures will be located in City Hall Plaza, at Boston Common, and along the waterfront. They will be available for public viewing from 12:00 noon to 12:30 AM.

Early Family-Friendly Fireworks Display

Midnight Harbor Fireworks
Presented by: Boston Harbor Now, The Friends of Christopher Columbus Park, & The Wharf District Council

Best Viewing: Public viewing is free and available along the Harborwalk at Fan Pier, Christopher Columbus Park, and the East Boston waterfront.

Enjoy free admission to the How Do You See the World? experience + Mapparium globe from 10:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., a tour of The Mother Church at 11:00 a.m., 2:00 p.m., and following the organ concert at 3:00 p.m. Visit the Christian Science Reading Room from 11:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.

First Night First Day is an annual two-day, city-wide celebration that is free and open to the public. Arts and musical performances will take place in various venues around the Back Bay.

Since 1975, Boston’s First Night has been a New Year’s Eve celebration of artistic performances, the wonders of the season and the beginning of a new year. In keeping with this fantastic Boston tradition, the First Night celebration in 2023 will continue to be free and open to all.
