Community Boating Inc. - Junior Program
Community Boating Inc (CBI) is one of the oldest and largest community sailing programs in the country. Sailing fosters teamwork, confidence, and an appreciation for the natural world around us.
Our staff of certified sailing instructors focus on three main goals: safety, FUN and learning. CBI’s boathouse, conveniently located on the Esplanade, is the best place for fun in the sun this summer!
Our Junior Program provides a unique opportunity for kids to gain confidence and independence in a supportive environment while having a blast on the water. We are an open, drop-in program; members can come and go from the boathouse anytime during Junior Program hours.
The 2018 Junior Program is open weekdays from 8:30am to 3:00pm, June 18 – August 24.
Members start with our week long Learn to Sail and Kayak Class, and can progress throughout the summer with classes in keelboat sailing, dinghy sailing, or windsurfing. By taking classes and demonstrating proficiency, members earn “ratings” that allow them use the different boats in our fleet. Outside of their scheduled classes, members can use their ratings to take out boats on their own or with friends.
What sets CBI apart is the freedom members have to fill their time as they choose. Members can choose between taking a boat out for a sail, getting involved in our environmental science program, or hanging out on the dock with new friends.
Our Instructor-In-Training program helps members gain leadership skills through assisting with classes or taking newer members out for a sail. Our Race Team allows those with a competitive spirit to learn the ins and outs of sailboat racing and attend local regattas.
The RoboSail program teaches members how to use a remote controlled sailboat. With so many options to choose from, each member can chart their own course to a fun and memorable summer!
Recommended for kids ages 10-17 years.
Full summer memberships on a sliding scale from $1 - $325
